Cary Fridley
Traditional Appalachian Singer
Cary Fridley plays rhythmic roots music inspired by southern country, blues, and early jazz. Her driving rhythm guitar playing and powerful expressive singing made old-time music history in her former band, the Freight Hoppers, a young group that inspired and entertained many across the nation the 1990s. A lover of old time music for many years, Cary released a solo CD, Neighbor Girl, in 2000, and is currently working on a new solo country project due out in 2007. Mostly, she plays regularly with the Asheville-based swing jazz band, One Leg Up, who recently released their new CD, Pere Lachaise. Cary performs as a solo singer of mountain ballads and with singer/fiddler, Steve Trismen singing country duets, or with The Cary Fridley Band (fiddle, banjo, guitar, bass). Cary also sings and plays the bass with the Asheville blues collective, The Lowdown Travelers.
