Description
"Ms. Genzano has that slightly Badu-esque fingersnap swagger. Her vocals are sweet and spot-on..." - Craig Gilbert, The New Haven Advocate, July 1st, 2004
New Haven, CT native, Chelsea Genzano was plucking out tunes on the piano by the age of 4, teaching herself to play guitar by the age of 11, and performing in coffee shops and bars at only 13 years old. Now 24, Chelsea is bringing her gift of soul to an all too often bland world of acoustic music. She's not your average "folk-singer" by any means, mixing reggae, hip-hop, soul and jazz tendencies with the simplicity of your mama's folk music. Her guitar playing ranges from soft folky finger-picking to aggressive hammer-ons. Her lyrics are frighteningly honest, and her voice blows open the doors to any venue.
In November of 2005 Chelsea packed up all of her belongings into her tiny Chevy Cavalier and trekked it across the country to settle in San Diego, California where she lived in an RV with no running water or electricty for four months. While (hardly) baring the elements, Chelsea made waves in the San Diego local music scene including being one of twelve musicians to play at the annual Acoustic Alliance at Cannes in Mission Beach. She also played such venues as Lestat's, where she got the chance to open for Edie Carey, and played on the street weekly at the Ocean Beach Farmer's Market, where the market manager asked her to be an official act. Chelsea is now back on the East Coast, funking things up with the release of her first full-length CD: "Live at the Acoustic Cafe".
Some other accomplishments in Chelsea's over 10 year career in local music include opening for many indie super stars such as Patty Larkin, Catie Curtis, Kris Delmhorst, Jess Klein and Heather Eatman. She has also been featured on radio shows such as Amazon Radio and played on both local and world renowned stages such as Acoustic Cafe in Bridgeport, CT, The SONO Arts Festival of South Norwalk, CT and The Bitter End in New York City among many others!
