Description
Formed in January of 2005, G-Whiz began as a musical diversion for three Ohioans attempting to entertain themselves during the stagnation of a New York City winter. A few months of experimentation, some raucous inebriated jams/sing along sessions with friends, and a couple of shows in Williamsburg, Brooklyn dives and the trio began to hit upon a sound.
Sharing influences the likes of The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Ramones, and the Velvet Underground, G-Whiz presents a kind of stripped down, simple brand of pop. With a strong concentration on cutting every last bit of fat from a song, the band shows a strong allegiance to brevity (few songs clock in over the three minute mark) When combined with their charismatic and energetic stage presence, the end result is something fans have dubbed giddy indie pop.
The band consists of three relocated Ohio State University alumni: Drew Hermiller (guitar and vocals), his older brother Chad (Bass), and Scott Dyer (percussion), whove moved to New York to pursue post-graduate careers but have found music to be a more fulfilling endeavor. After electric shows at some of New York Citys top venues including, Arlenes Grocery, CB/GBs, and the Knitting Factory, the band has released a self-produced 4 song EP entitled The Frank Henderson EP.
Currently they have their sights set on sharing their sound and energy with cities throughout the east coast and hope to release a full length within the year.
