Description
Hello Nurse knows what you think when you hear Indie rock from Brooklyn, NY.
Images are already flashing through your mind of four guys in tight pants moping around on stage while the singer mumbles through a few songs trying to make sure his makeup doesnt get ruined from sweat.
Rest assured: you can put aside these preconceived notions with Hello Nurse. The band promises minimal amounts of the requisite NYC preening and shoe-gazing. In addition, no eyeliner has been abused in the making of a Hello Nurse song. Instead, expect a high-energy rock show replete with sweaty sing-along choruses, thoughtful lyrics, and tight musical interplay.
Mike, Ed, Joe and Christian, NY lifers and transplants, met in between browsing for roommates (mainly) and romance (vainly) via the Craigslist website in February of 2004. Shortly thereafter, premier NYC venues such as The Knitting Factory, CBGBs, Mercury Lounge and Arlenes Grocery began booking Hello Nurse for headlining weekend slots. The band was also invited to play the CMJ Music Marathon in 2004 and 2005. Word-of-mouth buzz and aggressive DIY promotion ensured raucous crowds at every Hello Nurse performance. The bands multiple self-produced releases over the past two years were met with great fanfare both critically and on sites such as MySpace, where theyve attracted 70,000 fans (and counting).
As many will tell you, NYC was not an easy audience to win over in spite of the citys size: If you were to compare us to what the current scenes idea of cool is, wed probably rank somewhere between Steve Eurkel and Screech Powers in some peoples eyes, says Mike. Nevertheless, the band has been able to develop a strong NYC and regional audience through constant touring and DIY promotion.
In April of 2006, the bands self-released EP Chorusaurus will introduce fans to 7 new songs that showcase the bands maturity in writing more complex, hook-laden music that sets the stage for Mikes choirboy-like range. The EP was engineered by Travis Harrison of Serious Business Productions (Andy Ross of OK Go) and ranges from the infectious Last One To Know, which is already gaining steam at college and internet radio, to the more mellow ballad Weve Got Tonight to the signature vocal harmonies and guitarmonies of Target Practice.
