ABOUT HENRY PERRY, EFFORTLESS. AN ALBUM ON CD
Thanks for stopping by. If youre here by chance or by design- we think youll enjoy what youve found. Here you have found something redeeming, comforting and familiar. Maybe even earth shattering. Earth shattering in that we believe it will redeem your faith in what your heart and soul know is good.
Most of us know what it is like to buy a new piece of music from where ever, (on CD, tape, LP, holographic crystal, etc.) then get it home; grab a drink, unwrap it, put it on the appropriate machine, snap on the headphones, then press the play button. Youd begin to drink in the sounds and get lost in the songs while soaking up every word and symbol in the album insert. The thank yous, the acknowledgments, the players and producers, the composers and guest artists, the studios and the cities, the tech guys, and then most importantly- the lyrics. The words to the songs. Even instrumental tracks have a way of singing! You were in love with that experience. So are we. And we, (the production team of Perry/Murphy) hope to measure up to that experience with this Effort- Henry Perry, Effortless.
The package (a CD) is only important in that it holds all the parts of an album. This is an album on CD, not a CD. An album is a collection of valuable things. With us, the song is the thing. Familiar themes yes, but new ideas and unique ways of saying hello, goodbye, I love you, get lost, and where the hell am I anyway?
Man, was this ever fun. From a to z, it took more time to complete than we had planned, and it morphed several times into its final form. The process of making an album is exhilarating and the album title Effortless ironically betrays that process. No pain, no gain. But we loved it all!
This is an independent artist album. Self-produced, with all original songs, save for the use of a well-known traditional hymn rearranged somewhat, and melded into the outro of the final song on the record. A bit of last moment inspiration that brought the whole collection home.
Who do I / We sound like? I can only answer that question by telling you the names of the artists we respect and adore: Bacharach and David, Jarreau, Franks, Jimmy Webb, Fagen and Becker, Wonder, Luther, Marvin, John and Taupin- to name a dozen. All singers and writers!
I, Henry, live with my family in Los Angeles where I am a sales-rep by day and a singer songwriter by night. David P. Murphy hails from Hastings, Ne., formerly of L.A. via Omaha, Ne. where we were both born and raised.
We flew the friendly skies, and taking advantage of new technology we mined the web using Digidesigns Pro-Tools to record most of the tracks. The early tracks were recorded and mixed using ADAT in Glendale and L.A. The final songs were recorded and mixed in/at/from Davids Exceedingly Pleasant Studios in Hastings. Hastings is an exceedingly pleasant college town in central Nebraska. Returning to L.A. with a case containing his lap top and other digital material handcuffed to his wrist, David had to explain to the NTSA people that it was only a collection of I.R.R&B.P. (intelligent romantic r&b pop) tracks to be mastered at Glyn Sound in Montrose (a cozy burb north of downtown L.A.). They listened, cried a little, danced a little, and then let him board his flight. All of the personnel on Effortless except Murphy are residents of Southern California.
We are extremely proud of this Effort, and believe we have created something to re-ignite the excitement and romance of diving into the experience of unwrapping an album of new pop-music. No matter how its packaged! Give us a listen here, buy us, and then go tell all of your friends.
Thank you. Henry Perry and David P. Murphy.
