Description
Rebecca Hawkins and Kelly Tackaberry made contact through an international music website. Each of them, at the same time, had placed an ad to form a Christian band, yet as God would have it, they lived only a few blocks apart. Their musical styles, and their passion about spreading the message of Jesus through their music, were a perfect match that only God could have put together. Within just a few days, the Lord filled the need for a drummer and bassist, with the talents of Kevin Taylor and Jason Taylor (not related). Rebecca Hawkins is a gifted singer/songwriter, and guitarist that has been inspired to write music that uniquely encourages the Christian to push forward in their walk with the Lord. She is a survivor who has drawn her lyrics from her own life experiences, transformed and testifying of her new hope. Her passionate, soulful voice conveys powerful emotion to her audience. Her sound has been compared to Janis Joplin, with that rock edge that stirs the hearts of Gods people as well as those in need of a Savior. Rebecca has been a worship leader and soloist for churches, conferences, concerts, and womens events for years. Kelly Tackaberry first held a guitar at the age of 13, and has studied and strived many years to develop the musical gifts that God has given him. He has written most of Highway 7's faith-driven songs that reflect a heart filled with praise for his Lord, and a personal understanding of the journey of the human spirit. The lyrics reach the audience by speaking the words that are in the heart, but so often, difficult to express. He plays lead guitar and harmonica for Highway 7 and brings unique riffs to the music as well as back-up and occasional lead vocals. Kelly has written and performed his original music at churches, concerts, and special ministries throughout California, for over twenty years. After years of avoiding his dreaded childhood piano lessons, Kevin Taylor decided to take a percussion class in college, and soon realized he was hooked on the drums. In 1985, Kevin toured with the band, Ekklesia, from Hope International University, previously known as Pacific Christian College. Kevin is the drummer with Highway 7. He knew since his boyhood salvation that Jesus had a special plan for him, and this plan is now being realized with the opportunity to add his musical talents to Highway 7. When the worship band at his high school needed a guitar player, Jason Taylor answered the call, and learned to play. Following his senior year, he went on to play bass with a hardcore band. After moving, and taking more than two years off from music altogether, the Lord led Jason back home, where he met the other members of Highway 7, who were searching for a bass guitarist. Jason knows, that after searching for years, God has set him on the right path, and has given him the musical gifts that he brings to Highway 7. There are no genre barriers in the music of Highway 7. The variety of styles includes blues, jazz fusion, southern rock, gospel, folk, and ballad. The music reaches people wherever they are, with a clear Gospel message.
