Description
Chicago is now home for this Nashville transplant and he has certainly brought a taste of the South with him. Born in Georgia, and raised in North Carolina, Brian calls on his southern roots daily to keep him as honest as his music. Its funny though, I had to get away and go north to find the south in me and the music again.
The miles between his lives as an entertainer (singing on the Grand Ole Opry by age 21 and traveling the road as a bass player with various headline Nashville artists) and singer/songwriter are diverse, but these days, his maturity directs him toward the honesty in the lyrics he writes, the songs he sings, and the true tales he spins.
Brian also credits Rodney Crowells Houston Kid as a marker for whetting his appetite for writing again. To me, those songs were from deep down and painted beautifully I felt totally inspired to reach for that place too while writing the tunes for These Boots.
Every day is a work in progress for all songwriters, but one thing separating Brian from the rest of the pack is his voice. His clear, warm tones, maturity, vocal strength and experience shine through the instant he rolls out the first lyric.
Recorded mostly in Chicago, These Boots is mostly acoustic with country folk and modern bluegrass influences and chock full of great picking. Expect inspired contributions from friends like Andrea Zonn, Harry Stinson, Mark Goldenberg, Eric Silver, Jerry Salley, Wanda Vick, Jim Hines, John Rice, Larry Hinds, and others.
