Description
Ingrid D. Johnson is an emerging Winnipeg poet/writer/ spoken word recording artist. Her first collection of poetry "LITTLE BLACK BUTTERFLY IN IRIDESCENT SUNLIGHT," deals with the trauma effects of childhood incest, issues with low self-esteem, dysfunctional relationships, lust, love, introspection, and spiritual transcendence.
Since the launch of her poetry book on July.13th 2005, which was number 5 on the bestsellers list at McNally Robinson, she has done two readings at The Winnipeg Public Library for Black History Month, been in their September/ October newsletter, featured in The Metro, and The Lance community paper, Uptown, showcased for 8 months in 2004 on Def Poetry Jam (hosted by Verse Makers) website, interviewed on FLAVA 107.9's Big Phat Morning show, interviewed on CKUWs "Grammar Skool" radio show on 95.9 F.M., and CBCs Radio One "Up to Speed" show. On October.3rd 2006, she was feature in a 12 min documentary on CBCs National show "Outfront", CBC Local news and Newsworld, Shaw T.V., and Bravo! News (Chum T.V.).
Ingrid D Johnson is a Winnipeg poet and a songwriter who writes to express herself, confront social issues, heal, educate, and inspire change. She has written a strong spoken word piece dedicated to the strong spirit of her late grandmother Addassa Webb, who struggled with Cancer for 10 long years titled "Warrior", and she often performs her spoken word pieces and writes songs for the upcoming Winnipeg vocalist FLO. She has written"Tired", "Tired Part 2", "I Believed", "My Soul Won't Let You Go.", "MUSIQ", "Disillusioned", "I keep on dreaming", and "Not Too Late". She has also inspired some of the melody and story idea for FLO's R&B song "You Know/ I Know" and written the verses to "Move On", "Slow Jam", and "Turn the Tables". And she also co-wrote Flo-ING Energy with FLO.
