His clever lyrics, raw vocals and hooky songs have drawn comparisons to such greats as Jim Croce, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young. But hes also been compared to Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes, and Pat Monahan lead singer of Train. Its certainly quite a compliment to be told that my music reminds someone of somebody that Im a big fan of, he says. His harmonica style has been compared to blues harp master, John Popper of Blues Traveler, but his struming technique is entirely his own.
Madrid learned to play acoustic guitar at around the age of 17 and started writing his own songs at about the same time. In the years since, he's written several songs and performed them all over the world from Denmark, to Sweden, to Scotland, to England, to Germany and the Czech Republic.
Currently, Madrid is wowing audiences in the Phoenix area as a solo singer/songwriter and has formed multiple musical combos including several duo partners, an acoustic trio, and a rock band with a team of extraordinarily talented musicians. Besides performing his own songs, Madrid has a repertoire of over 350 popular rock songs that he can perform immediately upon request. Being the host of several local Open Stages has also presented Madrid the opportunity to create a roster of many gifted musicians in the Phoenix area with which to perform.
