Description
Jeff Wiens has spent the last several years 10,000 feet in the air his ranch in Park County, Colorado to be more specific. The vastness and majesty of that landscape is painted vividly in the ambience of his debut CD, Cairn. The sparseness and isolation comes through as well, in chord progressions and musical colors that will be new to your ear. This is the kind of uniqueness that MayApple Records values, and we are very proud to bring you this new artist. Actually, he may be new to you, but Wiens (pronounced weens) has been around in musical circles for some time whether playing grunge-country in the early 90s with his old band mate Mark Bilyeu of Big Smith (who produced and plays guitar on Cairn), or writing songs in Austin, Texas. But Wiens eventually chose the high country of Colorado, and as a result we all get to indulge in a new kind of Rocky Mountain High. Having spent his formative years in southwest Missouri, Wiens has brought in the native talent of that area to play on this record, including Joe Terry, David Wilson, Marcus Chatman, Todd Mincks, Dirty Dave Harp, Kenny Wirt, Molly Healey, Ray Castrey, John Prescott and Bill Hartman.
