Description
Jerri Little is a Gospel Soul innovator whose vocals intricately weave traditional gospel music with a funky, contemporary, jazzy, & neo-soul thread. Jerri is a singer and songwriter whose gospel influences, to name a few, have been such greats as Mahalia Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Richard Smallwood, The Clark Sisters, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Darius Brooks, Daryl Coley, the late Rev. James Moore, the late Min. Thomas Whitfield, Kim Burrell, and Commissioned. Jerri has sung either alongside, or backup with, various recording artists and/or recorded with well-known choirs. She has been featured in plays at various churches and well-known organizations, such as The Black Caucus and AARC. She has also become a regularly featured soloist throughout Chicago via both radio and television, such as the former Saturday Nite Sing, and currently can be seen on various Sunday morning church television broadcasts and programming, such as WGNs Singsation! hosted by Dr. Willie Wilson.
At age 5, Jerris vocal abilities were recognized and nurtured by her beloved mother (deceased). Jerri began her "ministry in song" at the age of 12 at her hometown Baptist church. Shortly thereafter, singing alongside her mother and sister, they formed a trio and began singing locally. Soon they traveled statewide and Jerris gifted, transfixing vocalese became more apparent, which gave way to her soloist undertaking. Despite the tragic loss of her mother, a divorce, and the abrupt deaths only months apart of her grand "parents", Jerri attributes "by the Grace of the Lord, I've come a long ways". Jerri's favorite scripture, Philippians 4:13, serves as a testament of her faith and way of living as she quotes, "I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST THAT STRENGTHENETH ME."
Upon moving to the Chicagoland area, Jerri's paternal grandparents (deceased) saw to it that her powerful and soul-stirring vocals were heard at various church functions. Her strong-willed grandfather was an inspiration to her as a philanthropist and encouraged her to always "help somebody", even if only through an uplifting song. And it became commonplace for her doting grandmother to pass notes to their church choir director requesting solos from Jerri. Soon after, Jerri began singing under the tutelage of well-noted choir directors and became a familiar voice heard around the city and abroad. Jerri remains faithful to God in her singing and her lifestyle, striving to be an inspiration to ALL of God's children and forever proclaiming, To God Be The Glory!
