Description
Jerry Adams, at the tender young age of 50, is a vigorous man who is full of life. His first priorities are his family and his music, and with eight children, Mr. Adams is definitely a strong believer in old school style family values.
Born and raised in the dirty south, Adams credits his parents, (who were both singers in their own rights), for his love of music. His mother, Ruby Guyton Adams, sang in numerous church choirs, and his father, Odell Adams, came from a musical family who were leaders in the gospel music movement across the south.
Jerry Adams says he can vividly recall crafting his talent by singing and dancing while basking in the hot sun of the Shelby, North Carolina cotton fields, and competing in local talent shows. Adams often dreamed of one day becoming a singer and songwriter, and joining the ranks of musicians such as Otis Redding, Marvin Gay, Luther Vandross, and Elvis Presley. With his smooth, sultry, and soulful voice, Adams believes that his crooning style is a blend of R&B, blues, and country; which he often refers to as Brown-Eyed Country Soul.
Mr. Adams major musical influences range from The Temptations, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Marvin Gay, Otis Redding, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Percy Sledge, Wilson Pickett, Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, The Rogers Brothers, and numerous others, whose sounds and styles are as seasoned as Adams own creative style. While still continuing to develop his craft, Adams already has a very strong sense of the kind of brown eyed country soul that personifies who he is.
As a result of his persistence, hard work and dedication, Adams goal to put together a CD, (a dream of his for 20 years), was met, and he produced his first CD, with three of his original tracks. Since that time, Adams has appeared and performed several of his songs during Cleveland County Idol (a local talent show which resembles TVs popular American Idol). With the release of this CD, This Is Jerry, Adams looks forward to making his second full length CD; a crossover of soul, R&B, and a bit of his own brown-eyed country soul. Adams new CD will clearly display his growth in both his songwriting and vocal abilities. Adams hopes that he and his music are on the road to success, but doesnt yet feel as if he has fully arrived. He admits that even though he still has work to do in mastering his singing, song writing, and guitar playing skills, and isnt exactly sure where this road may lead him, he strongly believes (in his heart, mind and soul), that this is where he is meant to be, what he was born to do and who he was meant to be; a singer, song-writer and a performer.
All in all, Jerry Adams believes that music should not only be sexy and soulful, but inspiring as well. He feels that it should reach deep into ones heart and soul, while brining out those unseen emotions that we all possess.
