Description
Jessica Paige is a 21 year old multi-award winning singer/songwriter from Melbourne, Australia. She plays solo and with her band of Paige Boys. The style is alt-pop with a jazz twist.
Jessica started busking on Swanston Street, Melbourne, when she was 14. "It's the only place you can see your earnings materialize in front of your eyes. It's the toughest audience of all, but the good thing with busking is that you get instant feedback, you know at once if they think you are great(or not), whether they love the song (or not)....and some of my most ardent fans have come from my busking!"
Review from Time Off (Brisbane) Nov 2006
Under My Skin (Independent)
".. there is a certain innocent naivety to her vocal delivery that is almost instantly appealing. With a certain class captured in her sounds, Paige jumps from piano-driven ballads (Under My Skin) to haunting middle of the road (Let It Out) and swing-infused pop (My Best Friend). However it doesnt get any better than Buckley, a track that name-checks the artists that have shaped her musical growth over a bed of bluesy guitar. Paige is definitely one to watch. (BP)"
"Jessica has surrounded herself with a great band of professional players who highlight her wonderful voice and songwriting ability." Indie Initiative
Jessica occasionally exchews the solo life and enlists Neil Tolantino (bass), Peter "Robbo" Robertson (drums) and Rob Murray (guitar/ harmonies).
Jessica has been influenced by artists and bands that are strongly melodic and lyric-driven. Her own father is multi international award-winning master singer/songwriter, vocalist and guitarist, Steve Romig.
So far, of the songs of Under My Skin, one has been selected for the AIR (Australian Independent Recording Association) Pop Compilation CD bound for world showcases like SxSW/Midem, two have Honourable Mentions, one has two international awards, another was selected for the Manchester Lane Compilation CD and Buckley is shaping up to be the next single, due to the strong response it is drawing.
Her 3 state band tour north from Melbourne to Brisbane is being supported by a JB Seed Publicity and marketing Grant - an extension of the John Butler fund for "developing the skills of artists to represent themselves in the industry and become self-sufficent". Only three of these grants were awarded this year in Australia to emerging touring artists of great promise.
Back of Our Minds was Jessica's debut EP (September 2004) and it collected six national and international songwriting awards, including the coveted APRA (Australian Performing Rights Association) Songwriter Award.
