Description
Kalichis work draws inspiration from Rumis mystical love poems as well as the songwriting of Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen.
Id like to imagine that Im linked with the tradition of the troubadour, the poet-musicians who brought Europe literature, a vision of egalitarian politics, an ethos of comradery and the belief in the redemptive power of love.
Time for the Turning. A song cycle of redemptive love and of loving that spins towards the light, that gifts its lovers with a crazy sense of future. Here are songs rooted in loves varied sources, personal, spiritual, sexual; in lullaby and healing; in waiting for those kisses we need; songs hewn from flawed relationships and from public as well as personal tragedy. At the core of this Time for the Turning cycle lurk two powerful contrasts, In This Tower on the Twin Towers falling, and Age Old Questions, a lullaby for a baby daughter. Kalichis lyrics confront and inspire, tell stories and open dreams.
As Kalichi writes, these are
songs from the hearts lowlands where loss strips you of what is familiar. Where falling into the water of unknowing, you look for signs and a purification is called for, a pouring out from the eyes. And where tears burn away all that blocks the true suns arrival. Then the crazy sense of future may come out through your heart like a radiant sun. Come on, let the crazy sense of future come let it come, let it come.
