Christina Athena: Raising the vibration of this planet through sound, light and love.
Christina Athena composes and performs original acoustic and melodic blends of Jazz and Bluesy Rock. She studied and performed with artist, poet and composer Richard Fammeree, who is responsible for giving Christina Karamesines her stage name Christina Athena, and two well known musicians and composers in the industry, Bruce Hastell and Brian Chatton. Both artists recorded with some of the top classic rock bands of the twentieth century including, Yes, Phil Collins, Wings and Badfinger.
Christina spent the majority of her youth in the Performing Arts. She started Ballet, Tap and Modern Dance at the age of three. By the time she was ten years of age, she performed at the Opera House in Valparaiso Indiana. During this time she also studied piano and had numerous recitals. Later on in her career she experienced a life changing event that would leave her visually impaired. Its at this point she gave up piano and shortly after picked up the guitar, which proved to be the catalyst for a brand new career in music. This experience in the Arts is a gift that Christina later shared with the children in Michigan City, Indiana.
Christina founded Singing Sands Performing Art Inc., a non-profit organization in Michigan City whose mission served as a community resource for teaching, performing and experiencing music, art and culture. In doing this, the gift of music was taught to the youth of Michigan City through After School Programs and Summer Adventure Camps. In addition, she coordinated the Singing Sands Performing Arts Music Festival, which helped raise funds for her programs in conjunction with Safe Harbor, Northern Indiana Public Service Company, The Unity Foundation and partnership grants through the State of Indiana.
Christina is inspired by dreams, her life experiences and the vibration of musical notes. The cover song Im wearing Champagne from her debut EP Christina Athena Live was motivated by actual events that took place one summer at a boat party, where composer Brian Chatton spilled champagne on Christina. That event alone manifested a friendship that has endured and a song that is timeless.
Christina Athena currently lives in Sawyer Michigan where she performs at cafes, coffee shops and other venues throughout Harbor Country, as well as along the shores of Lake Michigan.
