Description
Early in her life, Kara knew she would be a songstress. In fact, her ambitions were so firm and determined that she fled McMinnville, Oregon--her hometown for 18 years--the day after she graduated from high school to pursue her dreams. Since her arrival in 2001, Kara has made Manhattan her home. Kara's degree in the "School of Life" lends a visceral sincerity to her song writing that we typically identify in truly inspired artists. The allusions her lyrics make to real life aren't mired in sentimentality or layered with clichs; her words are fresh, concrete, and sincere. Kara's voice, on the other hand, is more difficult to peg. In any one song, her voice evokes country legend Kitty Wells' mellifluous tremolos, Kay Starr's lethargic croon, and Dolly Parton's brassy Rocky Mountain twang-but the similarities between these singers' voices and Kara's end there. (Rufus Wainwright has even compared her toPeggy Lee?) Kara is currently collaborating with Putnam Murdock & producer Bryan Pugh on her first full-length album. Kara and pianist/composer Aya Kato recently created the band The Gojo Hearts. Band members include guitarist/songwriter/singer Putnam Murdock, bassist Calvin Bennett, and percussionist J. Frederick. The Gojo Hearts can be seen performing at venues in NYC such as CBGB's, Galapagos, Rockwood Music Hall, Knitting Factory and Detour. For more information contact info@karasuzanne.com.
