Description
Kellin Watson isn't just a girl with a guitar.
She's a girl with a guitar, the ability to craft intelligent, inspired songs, and she's armed with a real-deal, blues-rock voice. It's a voice, unlike the sugar-sweetness of today's constant supply of disposable pop idols, which doesn't falter.
The release of Kellin Watson's first full-length independent CD, Paper Bird, marks a shift in the musical tide for the twenty-two year old singer/song-writer. With Paper Bird, Kellin creates an amalgam of musical genres and styles to develop her own unique sound. Blending blues, folk, jazz, rock, and pop with smart, honest lyrics, Kellin Watson etches a place for herself within the music world with this release.
Call it what you will. Catchy but three-dimensional, Kellin's music is undeniably listen-able. The maturity of Kellin's work is due greatly to her familiarity with music. Born to musical parents, Kellin began singing at an early age and made her first on-stage appearance not long after her second birthday. After picking up a guitar at thirteen, Kellin began writing songs and released a demo of original work at sixteen. Theatrical productions have found Kellin in leading roles and
her work in musical theatre has cemented her comfort on the stage.
In 2000, Kellin, along with her long-time friend and fellow musician Chris Lee, formed The Drive Home. After a year of performing in clubs in Western North Carolina, Kellin left the group to pursue a career on her own.
Most recently, Kellin has worked with Producer Richard Ashe (Union Station, Howard Levy), Pat Price (Bruce Hornsby, Little Feat), and has performed with Josh Lamkin, The Duhks, Bryan White, Dan Chase (of Blue Car Groove), and others.
Kellin has performed at Legends in Boone, Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, the Grey Eagle, and the Orange Peel of Asheville. She's looking forward to performing at these locations and more on an upcoming tour.
