Description
K. Page & Sleepwalkers Parade makes eclectic avant-pop for thinking folks, with comparisons being drawn to Annie Lennox, Bjork, Patti Smith and Nina Simone. The band works against a backbone of taught and intelligent lyrics to combine jazz styling and harmonic structure with rhythms that move from rock to trip hop to bent- up bossa. The Village Voice has written of lead singer K. Page Stuart, Stuart weaves an eerie vocalise while George Nauful of the Grammy winning Mesa/Blue Moon label has said of the band like Bjork meets Nina Simone.
Formed in 2003, the band is committed to genre bending and blending. Collectively, they have worked with Wynton Marsalis and Ricky Martin ( drummer, Peter Sloan Lewis), rock band Oneida ( bassist, Brian Coughlin); Antony of Antony and the Johnsons and Meredith Monk ( K.Page), Ute Lemper and Grammy nominated William Cepeda (keys player, Uli Geissendoerfer). The result of the band's adventurous approach is a music that reshapes what you think you know. You'll hear pop that rings classically, jazz intervals that rock hard and shred, and stories that push at the edges of sonic politics.
K. Page and Sleepwalkers Parade is a fixture on the NY scene and plays regularly at Sin-e, The Cutting Room, Makor, and The Knitting Factory. The single Sleepwalker, from an earlier EP, spent nine weeks in the top 10 on Ison Live Radio charts out of Australia where it moved from #8 to #3, a spot held for two weeks, and the band's new album, Green City was recently chosen as Editors Pick on Smother.net.
