Description
Marty Christians performances combine a soulful voice with sure handed guitar work in a mix of original compositions and interpretations from the classic Blues and Soul of Sam Cooke, B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Fats Domino and many others. His latest CD, Bluesicana on Street Man Records takes listeners on an acoustic/electric journey through the musical worlds he has known as a performer in both Texas and Louisiana.
A longtime resident of Austin, TX, Marty started his musical life as a Blues radio show host in his hometown of Cleveland, OH. Marty took his love for the music a step further when he brought it to the stage in places as diverse as Eastern France and Northern Alaska. Marty eventually settled into Blues-rich Austin, in 1992 where he began performing an eclectic mix of material reminiscent of his radio sets that ran from Memphis Soul and New Orleans R&B to Chicago Blues and everything in-between.
Marty found his most recent home in Lafayette, LA when he joined up as the guitarist and one of the lead vocalists for Thomas Big Hat Fields Zydeco Band in 2003. After collaborating with Fields for over two years, Marty began to focus on his own songwriting and solo/duo performances. Martys regular acoustic/electric gigs feature the well-seasoned accompaniment of Joseph Edwards on washboard (formerly of C.J. Chenier, Thomas Fields, Rockin Dopsie and Clifton Chenier.) Both their performances as a duo and Martys solo shows have brought their audiences an energetic and passionate vision of Blues and Blues-based music - one that involves understanding its past while forming a way to the future.
