Description
"Rebus" is the follow up CD to the debut 2004 release, "4".
"Rebus" displays a noticeable growth in songwriting skills as evidenced by the variety of song styles as well as a continued focus on thoughtful, insightful and inspiring lyrics.
From www.Hanx.net:
He lives in San Francisco but he sounds rather English. Or should I say Scottish? On Rebus we find six songs that keep the middle of the road where on the left side Jeff Lynne and the right side Nick Lowe can be found. It is no shame at all that the unique mastership of both these man is absent here. McVicker has enough pencils in his box to color his own music. At his best that is what he does in Land's End, a song that brings Brendan Croker to mind. Another great one is 400 Miles. McVicker's music has the airiness of good pop music without dissolving into the air. Back In My Arms is a slender song. McVicker singing is somewhat forced. The last one, Heaven, is a good one again. This album that was recorded with the Spooners(on bass, guitars and drums) could have had a better production. Naturally the lack of money will have left its mark, but more quietness and daring in McVicker's addressing the songs and more horizons on the soundscape, would have done the album some good. Rebus is an album that get's half a star extra because of the promise intended.
