Description
Melissa Elkins started singing as a small child. Her mom recalls her belting out part of a gospel song along with a tape when she was sitting in her high chair. Music has always been a big part of her life. Growing up Melissa sang in the school choir as well as several local talent shows. After high school, Melissas main goal was to one day become a recording artist. In 1998 she recorded a demo at Gene Michael Productions in Buchanan, MI. From there she went on to perform at the Eau Claire Cherry Festival from 1999-present. She has performed at other festivals in the area as well as benefit programs including the Sept. 11th and Veterans Day programs in her community. In Oct. 2003 Melissa competed in the Best New Talent contest in Los Angeles, Calif. and was in the top 100 female vocalists from throughout the United States. In Dec. 2004 and Jan. 2005, Melissa was the National Anthem singer for the Kalamazoo K-Wings hockey games where she performed in front of over 1,500 screaming hockey fans. In June 2005 Melissa competed in the Knoxville Star contest in Bridgeman, MI. and received 1st Place. She was sent to Knoxville, TN to record a demo. One night in July of 2005, Melissa decided to try out a new place for karaoke, and got what she never would have expected. After belting out Celine Dions I Drove All Night, karaoke DJ Cheryl from Star Makers Unlimited, pulled Melissa aside and gave her a number for a music producer in Nashville that she knew. She called him and set up a meeting with him. Melissa made the trip to Nashville and performed for music producer Gary Sadker and one thing led to another. In May of 2006 Melissa finished recording her first Nashville album entitled Dusty Road, which includes two songs written by Melissa Elkins. The first song is called Floatin On Cloud 9. She started writing it in 2001 after an engagement to her ex-fience. The song describes the way it feels when your in love and everything seems to be going your way. The second song is called All I Do Is Cry. She wrote this song in 2002 around 2 weeks after her engagement and relationship came to an end. The lyrics expressed the way she felt at the time, a feeling of heartbreak and confusion. Anyone who has ever suffered from a broken heart can relate to this song. Although the song is a little sad, Melissa was trilled to be able to record it on the album. The album Dusty Road was produced by Gary Sadker from Red Ridge Entertainment, Music Row, Nashville TN and was recorded at Bayou Recording, Music Row, Nashville TN. The album includes several live musicians who have played for major recording artists including, George Strait, Trisha Yearwood, and Jessica Andrews. This has been the experience of a lifetime for Melissa and she hopes to further her career by becoming a major recording artist and going beyond her wildest dreams.
