Description
Poetic lyricism, twisted chord progressions and hypnotic percussion put this CD in the rare-finds category-- a work of exceptional musicianship that offers food for thought served up in melodic morsels.
A mostly acoustic CD, Life Beneath the Sun features Michelles own tools of the trade: infectious melodies and smart guitar hooks combined with haunting string arrangements.
"Her distinctive but lovely voice and emotionally accessible lyrics are front and center on most of her songs, which are all works of profound musical talent," wrote reviewer Cory Bilicko ("Signal Tribune," Long Beach, CA)
Michelles powerful voice delivers songs that refuse to shy away from taboo subjects, as in Man with a Gun that exposes her personal struggle to understand the cycle of hate, poverty and crime after she was held-up at gunpoint.
The track Ive Become highlights Michelles versatility as a songwriter and musician. On this track, she plays everything but the bass. The song's funky guitar riff and catchy chorus trade off to poke fun at her own ethics and morality.
A Los Angeles native, Michelle began her music career early performing with such legendary artists as jazzman Buddy Collette and guitarist Robben Ford. Her former band Sideswipe won awards and praise from critics both locally and abroad. Her original songs have been featured in movies and on television.
Not many artists can lay claim to the multitasking abilities that Michelle has accomoplished on "Life Beneath the Sun." She wrote, produced and arranged the entire album. She even recorded "Man With a Gun" in her bedroom.
Rock and roll icon and artist Grace Slick contributed to the project by providing the cover art for the CD. Michelle notes, I chose a collection of songs that were written about various experiences in my life and was blown away by how much Graces painting completely fit the music.
