Description
Mister Doo plays raunchy, sleazy, acoustic blues and boogie on a variety of instruments including an old 1930s Stella and a National Resonator. He plays old delta classics, and his own take on the blues, touching on subject matter as diverse as cross-dressing fireman, competitive delta blues singers and neighbourhood cats. Mister Doo has been playing the blues circuit for many years, and only just been coaxed into the album market with his first release, 'Bring Me Gasoline'.
The reviews speak for themselves...
"Mister Doo embraces the audience, and fills the room with his unreserved bluesy vocal, that would trick the Mississippi into thinking he lived there once." Lizzie Bing, Blush!
"A good solid performance with skillful guitar playing. Steve Wells who is Mister Doo hails from Surbiton and plays blues in a raunchy, bouncy style with a hint of comedy and a healthy dose of sleaze" Phil Jackson, BBC SCR Radio
"Is That A Monkey? always brings the house down, and an extraordinary solo version of Little Red Rooster is guaranteed to knock the audience sideways by its sheer power and guitar wizardry, but theres more to Mister Doo than these 2 big hitters.
The real reason to go see Mister Doo, though is his blues both the old classics like Blind Boy Fullers Walkin My Blues Away, Kid Baileys Mississippi Bottom Blues or Rev. Gary Davis Shes Funny That Way, or his own takes on the blues like Comfortable Blues, and Jelly Man. It really does sound like theres more than one guitar being played at times he plays bass lines, chords and solos all at the same time." Peter Hodge, Rockin' The Blues Website
"Mr Doo is about as authentic to the Delta Blues as we have seen , and just about as great a blues act as we have come across at the club", The Dirty Rider Club
"It is impossible to tell the difference between some of the classics and his own material, he really is that good." Gareth Foreman, Kingston Guardian
"Mister Doo definitely had the audience in the palm of his hand with his quick wit and mesmerising blues playing." Hellon Hill, Moles Club
