Description
The collaboration between trumpeter, singer/songwriter Dawn Weber and pianist and bandleader Mo Egeston began in 1997. The result has been a remarkably consistent string of successful bands including Vargas Swing, Vargas, and from 2000-2005 the pioneering live house band Urban Jazz Naturals.
Eclipsing the national rep acquired by Vargas Swing, UJNs run has been the most successful project for the duo to date. UJN released a debut EP followed by two singles in the DJ driven dance market. These releases, How Can I (Gallery) with a remix by JT Donaldson and the Urban Jazz EP with a remix by Demarkus Lewis (Large Music), were both written by mo&dawn with mixing and beat support from UJN. The singles have been supported in clubs globally by some of the industrys top DJs, including legends Derrick Carter and Mark Farina, followed by glowing write-ups in magazines such as Urb and BPM magazine.
Building on the successful foundation and sound of UJN, the duo made the difficult decision to go solo in the summer of 2005 with The Remix Project. The sound is still all about live electronica but with complete freedom of style and musical collaboration. Their new set includes house, trip hop, electro funk, soul, acid jazz and drum& bass. Mo has literally remixed every track that he and Dawn wrote for UJN as well as some tracks from the original Vargas Swing EP.
The remix project vol. 1 is the first independent release by mo&dawn. From house to soul to acid jazz its all about the groove of electronic beats with the organic improvisations and vocal stylings brought by this talented duo.
The remix project performs live every Thursday at Monarch Wine Bar in St. Louis, MO, USA and will be traveling in support of the new release very soon.
