With a sound as smooth as the red velvet, the vibrant energy of Nepo sets the tone for a true musical creation. Africa meets world comprised of a distinguished group of talented musicians, performs Nepo Soteris soulful songs with passion and animation, reaching to the original compositions and familiar African tunes, Nepo fuses African rhythms with jazz, R&B and folk influences. With an East African twist, Nepo effortlessly displays his talent through his guitar and lyrical voice.
The power in his music, his gentleness in his playingvery, very, very soulful explains Bob Moses, drummer formerly with the Pat Metheny group, on the ambiance of Nepos music. Born in Rwanda, then moving to East Africa (Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia), Nepos diverse artistic talent comes from a strong musical foundation formed at an early age. Nepos first performance was to sing and dance for the President of Tanzania at the age of 10. He soon became known as a professional guitar player and singer in Kenya with the well- known band Ashantis, followed by regular performances with many big named bands in Ethiopia, including Aster Aweke and Alemayo Eshete. Nepos love for music and desire for growth soon brought him out of Africa, through Europe and eventually to Berklee College of Music in Boston. During his travels Nepo Performed with bands of various influences, including singer Goran Fristop in Sweden; Brazilian Band Feitico; Ibrahimas world beat, formerly with Stevie Wonder, and Mozamba, led by Bob Moses, formerly with Pat Metheny. Jimmy Woode, bassist formerly with the Duke Ellington Band, best summarizes Nepos musical abilities as creative, rhythmic, sensitive I knew he was going somewhere with this music
Now based in New York City, Nepo has formed his own group, Nepo & Africa Meets World and performs in all corners of the city and across the East Cost, playing steadily at the Zinc Bar, Le Bar Bat, the C-Note, Satalla the Temple of World Music, SOBS, Europa Night Club, and Makeda. Nepo also collaborates regularly with other New York- based groups, including The African Blue Notes with Dr. Martin Atagana, The Source with Buru Djoss, Dominic Kanzas African Rhythm Machine and Azouhouni Adous, Afro Yonkers, incorporating his own creative, rhythmic styles into each performance. As illustrated by Ibrahim Camara, percussionist formerly with Stevie Wonder, humbe, rhythmic, gentleness, fire, creativity.
