Start with funny, quirky and satirical songs. Add in some terrific musicians, a wide variety of arrangements and top-notch production. The result is Howie Newmans Trust Me, Youll Like It, one of the most entertaining independent albums you'll ever hear.
Backing Newman (acoustic guitar, vocals, harmonica) on this 13-song CD are some of the top names in the local music circuit, including Duke Levine, Billy Novick and Jim Gambino. This lively collection, which also includes four serious tunes, spans folk, rock, bluegrass, jazz, swing, country and just about everything in between.
Newman takes a whimsical look at cell phones, the weather, Boston drivers, not-so-graceful aging and rock stardom. For sports fans, there are memoirs of an aging softball fanatic (Weekend Warrior) and an ode to Doug Mientkiewicz. He even dabbles in love and relationships, examining middle age dating, daydreaming, skepticism and unfinished business.
Its funny, upbeat, warm and best of all fun to listen to. Give it a spin, youll like it.
