We are often asked how we would classify Odon's genre of music, and we finally came up with a definition that we feel does justice to all of our nuances and influences, so consider this album to be psychadelichippycelticwickedafrolatingroovebluegrassmedievaltechnoreggaeindustrialneogypsy.

1 Odon Soterias March: Bombards, Bass Drones, Bodhran.
Years ago I heard an extremely catchy late medieval French Brawl. The tune was so catchy that I would just hum it here and there. One day I was riding my bike and decided to write some lyrics to the tune.

2 How The People Stare: Great Highland Pipes, Bouzouki, Bodhran.
This song originated when I was playing the traditional Scottish pipe tune, "House of Cromdale." One day it just popped out and there it was. I refined it a little bit and added a second pipe to hold some harmonies. I pay homage to House of Cromdale in the middle of the song, but the rest is a Hippydan original.

3 Goodbye Mrs. Durkin: Electric Guitar & Bass, Bouzouki, Mandolin, Octolin, Harmonica, Drums.
It seems that this early 19th century Irish song has gone through many a change over the years. It seems that it originally had only three verses and was called "Muirshin Durkin". So in the spirit of adding verses to this song, Odon Soterias has taken poetic license and added a final verse and chorus. Who knows, maybe in a hundred years folks will think they were part of the original song (btw, praties are probably potatoes).

4 Charlotte's Brawl: Electric Guitar & Bass, Lynch Bass, Dudelscke, Bombard, Recorder, Drums.
This is a traditional late medieval brawl (brawl is a type of dance) which can be found on many CDs and is often played at Renaissance Faires. Odon Soterias decided to give it a special twist by mixing the traditional with the modern.

5 Job: Electric Bass, Bouzouki, Mandolin, Octolin, Penny Whistle, Harmonica, Dudelsack, Drums.
This has been a long time coming! Hippydan originally wrote this song as a creative project for a college course. Hippydan recalls, It was the strangest thing, I was having a dream and was in that place between sleep and awake when I began to sing this song. So I literally woke myself up singing this melody, and I just knew it was the tune that I had to write the Biblical book of Job to. Odon has been playing this song since 2003 and has been asked after nearly every gig which CD Job was recorded on. Well here it finally is, all 42 chapters of the book of Job sung in four and a half minutes!

6 In Taberna: Dudelscke, Bombard, Electric Guitar & Bass, Didgeridoo, Drums. In Taberna is Latin for "in the Tavern". It is a 13th century song from the Carmina Burana collection and has been adapted by Carl Orff and a few other traditional medieval bands. As with Charlotte's brawl Odon Soterias' adaptation creates a unique blend of modern & medieval.

7 The Leaving of Liverpool: Electric Guitar & Bass, Mandolin,, Dudelsack, Drums.
This traditional song was a big hit in the 1880's as well as in the Scottish folk music revival of the mid-twentieth century. Many folk groups include it in their repertoire including the Forgotten Celts, who inspired Odon to embrace it as well.

8 Mt. Carmel: Dudelscke, Recorder, Bowed Octolin, Drums
In a way Mt. Carmel is the twin brother to Job for it was also creative art project written for the same college course. The melody is a traditional renaissance brawl called "Pease Branle". This song poetically tells the tale of the legendary battle between the prophet Elijah & the 850 prophets of Baal and Asherah on the summit of Mt. Carmel. The full story is found in the biblical book of I Kings XVII-XVIII.

9 Amazing Grace & Farewell to Nova Scotia: Great Highland Pipes, Bouzouki, Mandolin, Octolin, Drums.
Farewell to Nova Scotia or Nova Scotia Song is a sailor's lament that is derived from the song The Soldier's Adieu attributed to the Scottish weaver-poet Robert Tannahill (1774-1810). The first time we heard the song we fell in love with it and decided to include it into Odon's repertoire. Because the last verse ended on such a sad note, we added a final verse to give the story a twist of hope.

10 The Outlaw: Bouzouki, Mandolin, Harmonica, Spittoon (with change in it), Electric Bass.
This song was written by the father of Jesus music/Christian rock, Larry Norman. It was released in 1972 on the album "Only Visiting this Planet". Odon Soterias hereby joins the extremely long list of bands who have covered a Larry Norman song. One Way!

15 Der Gammler
Der Gammler gehrt in Deutschland fest in den Liederbestand von Jungscharen und Jugendgruppen. Ich kenne das Lied seit meiner Kindheit von Freizeiten und Lagerfeuerabenden her ohne je zu wissen, dass es ein Englisches Lied von Larry Norman ist. Als wir anfingen die Englische Version aufzunehmen, kam mir automatisch der deutsche Text sowie zahlreiche Erinnerungen in den Sinn und so beschlossen wir, das Lied auf Deutsch zu der CD hinzuzufgen.
