Description
Ohlwiler's songs have received airplay as far away as Tokyo University, and as close to home as Salt lake and Moab. Some of her favorite shows have been house concerts at Glade's, playing with friends at the Big Red Rock N Roll show in Moab, and opening for Tandy at Black Betty in Brooklyn.
Wendy picked up guitar and started singing and writing songs in late '97. Her first gig was the Moab Arts Festival. After playing for about 6 months Ohlwiler recorded a 3 song EP Pave the Planet which made the SL CityWeeklys local top 50. The record was a collaboration with some of the areas finest musicians, Drummer-Adam Sorensen formerly of the Jackmormons and the Melissa Warner band, Guitarist-David Prill formerly of the Melissa Warner band, the Stacey Board Band, and JW's Blackout.
Her band was nominated for best new band in the SL CityWeekly readers poll, and their song "Dred" was included on the slammys compilation 2000. "Pave the Planet" was included on the SUWA compilation 2000. She played the Taylor showcase at Folk Alliance 2004 in San Diego, along with Dan Bern.
Wendy has been playing for about 9 years. The past 3 she has been touring as a 3 piece rock band called Black Wagon adding David Williams, and Ian Peisner. Will Barclay joins them for local shows.
Wendy has played in NYC, DC, WA, OR, AZ, NM, CO, WY, and also Spain, if you count busquing. She's opened for Tandy in Brooklyn twice, in rare form with David Williams on guitar, Adam Sorenson on Drums and Kent Vogle on Bass.
