Description
Expeditionary teams had established human colonies across the near universe by the year 3115, because earth had become a dying planet.
Climate changes and the wars of the 21st century first resulted in the extinction of birds and then the complete breakdown of the natural food chain. Vast regions had become uninhabitable.
Harvesting parties returned to Earth to select the best of their species for colonization, sometimes twice in one year, sometimes not for 75 years. We never knew when they would come, and so it came to be that Jonah lived in a cave hidden from the harvesters.
