Conquering The World
By Jaime Torres Torres, El Nuevo Dia June 2006
With Mi Tambor, Paoli Mejas made his mark on the jazz world. His presence over the last two years in international jazz festivals confirms the credibility he earned with his first CD.
Two years later, Paoli presents Transcend, a project classified as Jazz / World music since it goes beyond Latin Jazz in the traditional sense. There is music from India mixed with rhythms from Greece. That is why its considered world jazz. It all started when Tony Escapa shared with me music he picked up from Greece which I thought was great. Combined with Flamenco music I obtained from Nestor Toro we fused them, explained Paoli at his visit at Nuevo Da.
Paoli, who was nominated for a Latin Grammy for Mi Tambor, produced Transcend in the studio of the son of singer Tony Bennett in Englewood, New Jersey. The sound is unsurpassable. Its one of the best studios I have seen. All the jazz tracks (#1-7) I recorded there acoustically
