Description
Plum Jam plays traditional music with a kick. Songs with sweet harmony vocals by guitarist Sandy Goodson and bassist Janice Malec, who are sisters, alternate with tunes and songs led by multi-instrumentalist Paul Rosen. All of this is fueled by the infectious drumming of Drayton Turner. Plum Jam traverses the folk landscape from old-time to Cajun to Western Swing as casually as a stroll through the park.
The songs:
Shaky Junction: Original mandolin piece with a sorta-Klezmery feel and a lot of layering, reminiscent of the Mando Mafia.
Deep Elem Blues: Traditional tune done as a Cajun blues.
Payday: Dan Hick's sad-yet-fun lament to having more money than love.
Sweet and Sour Rag: Original old-time rag.
Sugar Moon: Bob Wills' classic. A happy song about love.
First Street: Original old-time fiddle tune.
There's Something in my Eye: Original swing song with Fats Waller in mind. A happy love song.
I've Got the Morning Blues: Traditional tune associated with Uncle Dave Macon, but we do it Cajun.
When I Take My Sugar to Tea: Another happy swing song about love.
Persian Cat: Original old-time tune and song. Well-behaved cats rarely have songs written about them.
The L&N Don't Stop Here Anymore: Jean Richie's haunting song about a coal miner.
