Description
Formed in New York in 1998, the Quantum Quartet is a rarity in today's jazz scene: a true musical collective. Co-led by all of its members, the Quartet writes, arranges and performs together, developing a sound that is uniquely its own. Their music draws upon all of the musicians' varied
backgrounds, tastes and personalities; each expresses his own voice clearly, while contributing to a singular group sound. The Quartet's playing is rich in interplay and humor, and the joy of playing compositions that have been developed by all radiates from every note. While Quantum's members are grounded in the jazz tradition, they are equally comfortable drawing upon classical, funk, rock, and non-Western musics. Their collaborations shift, blur, and breach the borders between musical genres. The Quantum Quartet produces music that is fresh, sophisticated, playful, and completely its own.
