Biography
Rebel Soul Band is roots rock with a groove, drawing from a variety of styles including folk, blues, bluegrass, reggae, funk, jazz and psychedelic. The organic energy from their live studio recordings and well-crafted songs have brought them much recognition.
RSB has just released their 2nd LP entitled Shangri-La which was recorded live in the studio. This Los Angeles bands first self-titled recording quickly found radio airplay on the popular rock station KLOS 95.5 FM and on KPFK 90.7 FM (Barry Smolins The Music Never Stops). Shortly thereafter, they received national recognition in RELIX magazines On The Verge section, then won a spot on the 2004 RELIX JAM OFF compilation CD. RSB has also been invited to perform at several festivals throughout California, including: Union Street Faire '05 (San Francisco, CA); LA Art Fest '05 (Los Angeles, CA); Los Angeles Marathon '04 & '05; Whole Earth Festival '04 (Davis, CA); North Park Spring Festival '04 (San Diego, CA); The Venice Carnivale '04 (Venice Beach, CA); Topanga Days '02 (Topanga, CA); and Millpond Traditional Music Festival '00 (Bishop, CA).
Skilled and tour-schooled musicians round out the RSB line-up as each brings considerable experience to the band. Priding themselves on their live show, this talented four-piece is highly polished and confident with improvising in all the styles they play. Singer/guitarist Rich Sheldon, has a vocal quality similar to Paul Simon and always keeps a bluesy groove on his Les Paul guitar. Its apparent that Garcia is an influence. Keyboardist Erich Hatch Gann brings high energy and flare to RSB with flavorful vocal harmonies, a funky Jerry Lee Lewis comes to mind. Bassist, Guy Silliman lays down the backbone of the rhythm section with Drummer, Brad Rhodus. With a similar style to Butch Trucks of the Allman Brother's Band, Brad is dead-on, incorporating great dynamics and tasteful fills throughout the jams.
Collectively the members of RSB have opened for Blues Traveler, Widespread Panic, Dave Matthews Band, Sting, Merle Saunders, The Radiators, Leftover Salmon, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Chris Hillman, David Lindley, Big Head Todd & the Monsters, Cherry Poppin Daddys, The Verve Pipe, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Big Bad Voo Doo Daddy and Sweetwater.
