Description
These simple songs are all played on guitar, piano with voice and very little adornment. The exception is "Ruby Star," which has backing vocals by both Robin Holcomb and Kiki Smith. They are lyric oriented hard edged, folk blues which yet provide a mellifluous listening experience. Tales of romance, loss and redemption. Ruby Star was on sale at the Museum of Mondern Art in NYC under it's own cover for a while as part of some visual work by Kiki Smith and Donald Rubinstein. This is one of Donald's most personal and interesting CDS.
Beautiful tunesdevoid of transitory trendiness.

His singing voice reminds me of a tired, more world weary Bruce Springsteen. In the singer/songwriter vein, I'd much rather hear Rubinstein than any of the other, more popular artists.
