Description
Take one part Led Zeppelin, dash with modern guitar bite and baste thoroughly in catchy hooks and riffs. Throw in the groove of Lenny Kravitz and the spirit of Jimi Hendrix. Simmer for hours in the South London street - serve red hot! The result Sabatta.
Sabatta is a four-piece alternative rock band consisting of Yinka Oyewole (vocals, Guitar), Andrew Stone John (Bass), Jason Fletcher (drums), and Mike Zachary (rhythm guitar). The band was formed by Yinka and Stone in December 2004, and they are the creative driving force within the group. They played an initial gig at The Mint Bar and decided to spend several months working on new material before recruiting the other members. In February 2005 (after numerous run-ins with disgruntled neighbours complaining about the noise?) they began renting a studio in South London, which is still the bands base.
Sabatta's music is a mixture of old and new based on classic 70's rock and today's edgy guitar sound coupled with exhilarating vocals and excellent song writing that has chart potential written all over it they call it STREET ROCK!
Sabattas influences are diverse. Yinka for example is a big fan of QOTSA, Metallica and Guns n Roses but also draws upon his Nigerian roots within his guitar style referencing artists such as King, Sunny Ade and lyrically Fela Kuti. Stones rolling bass lines add a groove that recalls the infectious rhythms of Sly and Robbie. This is all thrown into a melting pot of raucous rock guitar riffs, a la Hendrix and more recently Lenny Kravitz. The band has a very wide appeal with elements, which are cutting edge that to fresh ears whilst retaining classic established sounds those more seasoned music lovers will appreciate.
Live they are breathtaking in every sense of the word. They have presence, musicianship and showmanship - they know how to perform a song with controlled aggression and a sexy swagger. They have performed at venues on the London gigging circuit such as Hope and anchor, Bull and Gate and the 333 club.
Sabatta's songs range from high-octane rockers such as Now You Know to the stripped down Princess, whilst Still Got Love 4 U is as fine a rock ballad, as you will hear for quite some time. . They have lots more songs in store and every one of them employs their trademark sound that packs a serious punch and exudes a definitive touch of class.
Sabatta have already had songs featured on popular UK based Podcasts: The Uk Unsigned Show (Still Got Love 4 U) and Aaron and Jake - Unplanned (Now U Know) and have been reviewed by Neon Promotions who described their sound as riff driven but never loses it's groove nice riffs and catchy lyrics too.
Look out for Sabatta on tour - starting with the UK from October 2006!
