Description
Some people dubbed a radio they had been bringing to the beach for many years "Sand Machine" because it was filled with sand, yet it still worked. Inspired by its persistence and dedication to music, they named their band after it. That is the creation myth of Sand Machine.
Since then the band has busied itself with creating infective melody lines and harmony arrangements reminiscent of the British invasion overlaying a bucolic American roots rock. Encompassing social commentary, story-telling, emotional revelation, and a touch of wry, Sand Machine purports to be both the forest and the trees. Besides playing consistently in Boston and other parts of New England, they also play NYC, Pittsburgh, Nashville and beyond. "This is the band that everyone wishes they had. It takes real talent to groove SLOW, relaxed, and the Sand Machine has that down to a science. With an early Neil Young/Crazy Horse mood, great vocal harmonies that remind one of Stones at times, and that countryish folk bluesy rock thing going, these guys are right ON. I dont really smoke the wacky tobacco anymore, got paranoid too much, but this type of music makes me want to start again! Theres a positive sign. You just get the feeling (Im speaking of the overall sound of the whole album) that things will be alright as you ride the lazy, swinging chord progressions that Sand Machine has put together for your audio pleasuretasteful arrangements that would sound great pumping out of your stereo on Friday after a hard work week (if youre a nine to five person, which Im not).
