Description
Jim B. Smith was the radio operator aboard the B-29, The Boomerang, in W.W. II. J.B., as he was known to many, was aboard the little-known last mission that ended and padlocked W.W.II 6 days after the Atomic bombs.
Smith wrote The Last Mission book, published by Doubleday/Random House and featured on The History Channel. After the war and a year in the University of Texas, Jim signed up with a top Hollywood school of music/drama training under the GI Bill. Smith was tabbed to do a lead in BATTLE SCENE, one of the first films ever produced for television. He became a member of The Screen Actor's Guild in1950 after a role in Jet Pilot, a John Wayne. Movie. He went on to perform 60 Hallmark Hall of Fame, and Matinee Theater live network shows along with movie and television appearances. As a side bar, he coached Jon Voight for the part of Joe Buck in Midnight Cowboy.
Jim Smith was also featured in the Tiparillo commercials (Should a Gentleman Offer a Lady a Tiparillo) for 5 years. He was a Jack Webb regular in Dragnet, Adam XII, Emergency and O'Hara US Treasury. Smith has signed an option to get The Last Mission on the Big Screen. Jim B. Smith is a member of ASCAP and has composed a number of songs for the movie.
After all this-- J B, as his friends call him, is heart and soul into the straight ahead vintage Standard Americana songs of yesterday. His hobby is chording his very old Martin Flattop and singing along,
