How do I begin to explain my fascination with the Thumb Piano?
First it's the sound! It's as delicate as a wind chime and as intimate as a lover's breath! Within the narrow scope of it's range of notes there is a mini-universe of sound, and it's precisely this limitation which challenges my imagination! Truly minimalism! Naturally confined! No artificial boundaries!
Other musicians and composers have lead me in this direction: The Multi-cultural/Jazz improvisations of Don Cherry, the "Suite For Toy Piano" and prepared piano pieces of John Cage as well as Gamelan music from Bali.
Naturally my CD "pieces of the TRANS-WORLD SUITE" goes beyond these influences. In fact, I can trace a separate influence for each one of the pieces I recorded!
