Description
For nearly 20 years, this acoustic and vocal quartet has maintained the dual role of a highly lauded singer-songwriter ensemble and one of North America's foremost presenters of Scottish traditionally-based music. This Celtic edge merges with their American pop and folk roots to create a seemlessly mesmerizing and dreamy journey for audiences. Reviewers have called their shows "trippy, timeless and passionate."
Known for their "blood harmonies", this family ensemble regularly features such intriguing guest artists as fiddlers John Taylor, Gina Forsyth and Alasdair Fraser, the entire drum line from Clann An Drumma and Albannach, guitarist David Praet and percussionist Merel Bregante (Loggins & Messina, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) who co-produced the band's tenth album. But make no mistake, the quartet is a solid stand-alone act and visiting artists only add to an existing and amazing chemistry.
Smithfield Fair has never chosen the obvious musical path. The members of this unusual acoustic and vocal quartet consider their music to be song-driven songs with messages of hope and insight. Influences range from The Association to the Hooters, Richie Havens to Bruce Cockburn, and Emmylou Harris to the Mamas & the Papas.
