"A grasp of melody, narrative and economy beyond his years... you don't find those three things in many songwriters these days. If I'd known then what he knows now... well, look out." - Peter Mulvey

Description
"Satchel Welch at nineteen has better chops and more native talent than three quarters of the FM dial. He is the instinctive sophisticate, the raw-boned youngster with a full grown sense of melody". - Jeffrey Foucault
"Satchel Paige Welch. With a name as cool as that you'd only have to be one tenth as talented as he is. Already at the tender age of 19 he's sounding to my ears more than ready for prime time. Getting me to say something nice about someone is an especially nasty chore nowadays, but I can rein in all of my nasty upper mid-western cynicism when in the presence of a voice this disarmingly sweet. To sing without affectation, a goal that seems to have fallen by the wayside in the wake of "American Idol", seems to be a dying and disrespected art, but young Satch is a one man revival in that department. And you can tell that to Simon." - John Sieger
Born and raised in Wisconsin, I began playing guitar when I was ten years old. My home was in the upstairs of my parent's restaurant and venue, The Cafe Carpe. My parents never encouraged me or discouraged me from being a musician (a number). I'm just a product of my environment. The record you've come upon here is a collection of stories from the head of a slightly depressed, neourotic and angry 18 year old: me, four years ago. It has its place in time and I'm proud of it. It's not very representative of who I am today, but that shouldn't matter much to you, right? I currently reside in Nashville, TN playing and writing with a friend of mine, Carey Ott. My cousin Kai Welch plays in our ensemble also. I'm still working on my own thing, as always, but was dying to expand my abilities and versatility, which playing in this band has done and will continue to do. You can find Carey's music at www.careyott.com or myspace.com/careyottsongs. I've been writing a lot and plan to record some new tracks with Carey or Kai soon. If you're interested in hearing these songs, or some other new ones from the Carey Ott project, go to myspace.com/satchelwelch. But first, if you like what you hear, buy this little piece of history here and support my latest poverty-inducing endeavors! It won't disappoint, and neither will anything you hear from me in the future if I can help it. Thanks so much for stopping by and having a listen. Take care!
