Description
Composer, Sy Brandon, a professor emeritus of music from Millersville University, Millersville, PA, has received numerous commissions and honors including 1st place in WITF-FM's 25th Anniversary Composition Contest, the El Dorado Sacred Music Composition Contest, Franklin and Marshall Colleges Wind Ensemble Composition Contest, and the New England String Ensemble Composition Contest. His music has been recorded by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Bulgarica, the Kiev Philharmonic and has been performed both throughout the United States and abroad including performances by the United States Army, Navy, and Air Force Bands and on NPRs Performance Today. Oboist, Anita Ranucci Brandon, received her BM degree from Ithaca College and MM degree in oboe performance from the University of Arizona. She has held the position of principal oboe in the York Symphony since 1976 and with the Harrisburg Symphony from 1976-1986. She recently retired from the music faculty of Millersville University where she was honored with the title of professor emerita.
Dr. Lauren Murray is the Instructor of Oboe and Associate Director of the School of Music at The University of Northern Colorado. Prior to her appointment at UNC, Dr. Murray served on the faculties of Murray State University, Austin Peay State University, the University of South Florida, and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. As a recitalist, Dr. Murray performs regularly with Harmonie del Sur, a duo with trumpeter Robert Murray, performing new and existing works for oboe and trumpet, as well as chamber wind music. In the spring of 2005, the duo presented their New York recital debut with performances at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. Dr. Murray has appeared in recital at The Moab Music Festival, New Music Tampa, the Bonk Festival of New Music, and The Winter Sun Music Festival.
Oboist, Tricia Wlazlo, performing here as part of the Cadence Music Ensemble, has studied with Harry Sargous, Ronald Roseman, Allan Vogel and has served as Ray Still's teaching assistant at Northwestern University. Currently, she is an active freelance artist in metropolitan Chicago and maintains a private oboe studio of various ages. Innovative, new and vibrant, the Chicago-based Cadence Music Ensemble has been entertaining audiences with their unique style and programming since 2002. Winners of the spring 2005 Co-Op Press Commissioning Grant, Cadence, whose other members are pianist Sandra Carey-Sheaffer and percussionist Alan Stocking, is dedicated to promote music written exclusively for their instrumentation as well as arrangements of standard classics. From the baroque era to 20th century compositions, Cadence performs all genres of classical music.
