Description

The longer we've been in this business, the harder it becomes to classify our music. We started out as folkies of one stripe or another way back in the days of the Great Folk Scare of the 60s, and absorbed everything that flowed from it - blues, country, pop, rock, jazz, gospel, just about every bit of Americana finds its way into our songs. Classifications are only important when we have to pick genres on websites for you folks to find us; the muse doesn't care where your influences come from.

Teeth, Hair & Eyeballs consists of two songwriters and a bass player, with a collection of folk/blues-based acoustic guitar tunes that run the gamut from Heavy, Deep & Real(TM) to what is virtually a drug chant set to music, with side trips to fanciful realms in between.

Bios:
Jim "The Emergency Folksinger" Nason (Vocals, Guitar): Ever since the seventh grade, when he snatched up his little sister's cast-off ukulele, guitarist Jim has been unable or unwilling to concentrate for long on anything but music. (His Bachelor's degree in Philosophy made him a Certified Lifetime Unemployable in any case.) The middle kid in a family of five, Jim flew beneath the family radar, leaving plenty of time for imitating his idols, Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson, Buddy Holly and the Everly Brothers. In San Diego as a Navy Hospital Corpsman, he was sucked into the 60s Great Folk Scare, running into the likes of Mason Williams, Hoyt Axton as well as strange, beach-dwelling bluegrass pickers. Afterwards he attended college, got married, and began to hang out with all the beatniks-turned-hippies playing folk, blues, jazz and, rock at hootenannies, coffee houses, and festivals. Since then, Jim has played everywhere from the street to concert halls while also raising a family. Over that time he has written prolifically and in 1999 recorded his debut CD, Completely Naked. In 2001 he helped form the Emerald City Jug Band with Stan and Paul. With TH&E Jim relishes the opportunity to revisit and rearrange his songs.

Stanislove (Vocals, Guitar, Bottleneck Slide, Mandolin): A recent (since 1985) Washington native, German-born Stanislove is an acoustic-roots folkie and songwriter who picked up the acoustic guitar at 16 and hasn't set it down yet. He's done many different things for a living, from running nuclear power plants to cataloguing obscure books to designing Web sites; none made him happy. Music is what makes him happy, and music from people like Son House and Sarah Vaughn and Frank Zappa helps keep him sane. He really likes Dixieland and jug-band music, and founded two jug bands (Ten Years Late in CT and the Emerald City Jug Band in Seattle) to keep the tradition alive and have fun in the bargain. As an artist, he cheerfully steals from the likes of Woody Guthrie and Cisco Houston and Bob Dylan and Mose Allison and Delta blues singers like Muddy Waters and rockers like Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry, with ragtime, swing and ballad icons thrown in for good measure. Stan is a soulful singer and a gritty observer who can at once make a point and get you to laugh. His solo performance features acoustic blues, tongue-and-cheekily 'updated' folk songs and biting political rants.

David "Professor Oohs" Pengra (Bass): Like Emergency Jim, bass player Dave is a Northwest native. He grew up among the endless wheat fields, frat rats and convicted felons in the southeastern Washington town of Walla Walla, where he joined his friends in the seminally unknown band Solomon Jest. Dave's bass heroes are Paul McCartney when he was in whatstheirname (that band before Wings), and Rob Stoner when he played with Bob Dylan. He also likes various Motown-, jazz-, and reggae bassmen. After accepting the reality that playing in an unknown band wouldnt pay the rent, he decided college wasn't so bad after all. He pursued a career in physics and even became a tenured professor at Ohio Wesleyan University. Still, he followed his love of performing with various groups and The Professors (a duo that actually made money). Dave returned to Seattle in 2002 after he had had his fill of academic politics and his wife could not take any more of Ohio. He joined the Victory Music song circle in Fremont as an embedded bass player, where he met Stan, Paul and Jim.

Paul "LogicMan" Sandoval - Vocals, Guitar, Percussion (Emeritus): Originally from Denver, Paul escaped his crowded home as a teenager and spent most of his adult life in the Bay Area, where during the 80s he ran the open mic at La Val's in Berkeley and put on multi-media fashion-and-music events in San Francisco. While writing and performing music, Paul worked as a sound engineer and founded Madman Studio in Berkeley and Midi Soundlab in San Francisco. With his big warm voice and SNL-type of humor, Paul plays songs easy to sing and dance to, and easy to fall in love with. On our debut CD, "Live at the Teeth, Hair and Eyes' Ball (minus Hugo House)" Paul also did a great job of mixing and producing the tracks to create a rich, full sound from a few acoustic instruments playing live.
