Description
The Night before Christmas and all through the city
Every creature was stirring and dressed up real pretty
The kids were all posed in the bright nightclub light
Waiting for something special to take flight.
What do you do on a porch in Florida, in early October? Of course you conceive a Christmas record while drinking Gin and tonics, under Spanish moss. Not quite Handel's Messiah. Not quite egg nog and Mistletoe. Not quite. Not quite Perry Como and Bing Crosby either. Not quite.
See, the sugarplums Cathryn Rich dreamed of were some of the best up and coming bands of the next wave of rock that has exploded in the past year and a half in New York City. And the songs were Christmas classics from the Rankin/Bass stop-motion Rudolph stories.
Still, to record, mix and master in less than five weeks, then get the records pressed for a December 2nd release date, would take more than a miracle on 34th street. It would take a hustle on forty-deuce to succeed.
Yes, New York City, there is a Santa Claus.
