Description
Singer/songwriter, Thomas Earl has just released his new CD Golddust Magic. The CD contains 11 new original songs. Thomas music reflects a wide range of artists that have influenced his career. From growing up listening to everyone from Ray Charles and Bill Monroe to Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones, Thomas clearly has influences from country and folk to rock and roll. His music is acoustic based and you may hear James Taylor, Neil Young, Bill Withers, Joni Mitchell or Lyle Lovett influences. He also relates to contemporary folk music by such artists as Lucinda Williams and Amos Lee.
Thomas Earls musical journey began in a small town in Michigan outside of Ann Arbor, playing in small clubs with then unknown and aspiring musicians such as Joni Mitchell, John Hammond, Jim Kweskin and Maria Muldaur. He continued performing and writing, working both as a solo artist and with various folk, jug band and bluegrass groups. He served as both performer and concert promoter as he produced live music events in Michigan and Ohio. His music took him throughout the Midwest and to Europe, including writing music for a theatrical production tribute to the poet Langston Hughes. In the 1970s, along with a number of folk artists, he began a migration into rock and roll. His experiences included a brief brush with commercial success with a group called The Woolies, releasing a cover of Who do you Love?, as well as working in a group called, The James K. Polk Memorial Rock Band, who released a rock version of Jessie Collin Youngs Four in the Morning. As with many struggling musicians who grow into their twenties, Thomas ended up leaving the music industry and moving into a more traditional career in the corporate world. He always continued playing, performing, and writing music whenever he had the opportunity.
Three years ago, Thomas became re-inspired to begin focusing again on his music. Thomas, as most musicians, doesnt like categorical boxes people try to place them in, but his music tends to drift between folk/rock and alt/ countryall with a natural acoustic instrument approach.
Thomas now makes his home in the Hudson Valley in New York.
