Tracy Griffith
bio
What do you do after youve been a model, actress, dive master, sailor, painter, guitar player, writer, world traveler and one of the worlds first certified female sushi chefs?
Why, go a little bit country.
Tracy Griffith returns to her Tennessee roots and long love of country music with her debut album: Red - after her nickname and in honor of her Grandfather, James Red Greene. He introduced Tracy to Buck Owens, Johnny Cash and Lefty Frizzell. He thought Barbara Mandrell was wonderful and Patsy Cline, too. He encouraged her to play guitar and bought her a fiddle. But there were a few other lives to explore before she focused on music.
Raised in New York City and on the island of St. John --sailing and SCUBA were after-school jobs in the Virgin Islands. In NYC, it was summer teen- modeling and TV commercials that lead her into an acting career.
After college, she worked in Hollywood and New York for the next 12 years. Her acting credits include The Guiding Light, The Good Mother, Fast Food, The First Power, The Finest Hour, All Tied Up, Crazy In Alabama, 21 Jump Street, Lifetime's Their Second Chance and the miniseries Ruby Ridge: An American Tragedy. She was a regular on the ABC drama series The Monroes.
Now, she wondered, what next? Sushi school! Hai!
She attended The California Sushi Academy and six months later was hired as the featured sushi chef at Tsumanis in Beverly Hills. After sparking national media attention for being LAs first professional sushi girl, Tracy also developed her unique spin on sushisushi without raw fish. This lead to a publishing deal for her cookbook Sushi American Style that was released by Clarkson Potter in August 2004.
Tracy starred as the chef/host on the recurring Cooking with D.I.Y. series and Celebrity Hobbies on the D.I.Y.Network
She become partner and progressive sushi chef at Rikas on Sunset in West Hollywood in December 2004 which featured a menu devoted wholly to her style of sushi.
In 2005, she moved to Napa and concentrated on finishing her Red CD which she did in August 2006.
Yes, Tracy is also the sister of actress Melanie Griffith and Production Designer Clay A. Griffith, but no relation to Andy.
