Description
VECTOR TRIO
Vector Trio began life in 1996 simply as Vector, the brainchild of trumpeter/composer Scott Forrey. Then a septet, the group delved into collective improvisation, free jazz, and deep harmolodic funk; a run of gigs on Washington, DC's U Street corrider culminated in the CD "Sonic Hieroglyph," released in 1997. The year 2000 saw a stripped-down Vector release "Contagious Images" as a quintet.
The new millennium brought about new challenges to Vector, now simply Vector Trio. The trio began making use of electronics, including looping devices and effects processors. Their work to date is showcased in their new, all original CD, "Plot Twist." The trio format allows the musicians to explore their voices and improvise in wide-open spaces, though the electronics often help create dense dreamscapes that make them sound like a much larger group. Vector Trio recently celebrated the release of Plot Twist with a Transparent Productions-hosted gig at Sangha, in Takoma Park, MD.
Vector Trio is:
Scott Forrey, trumpets, loops, electronics, and percussion
Gary Rouzer, fretless bass, loops, and electronics
Marshall Hughey, drums and landscape percussion
