Description
Welcome to the Vosika Brother's site. All the songs that the Vosika Brothers do have some kind of significant meaning to them. Tim has told crowds at various gigs that the hardest audience Lee and him played for were relatives at a family reunion (this was early in their singing--later, relatives began to gather instead of scatter). This is where the song "Images" came from.
The tunes they write and sing, speak of their experiences at home and abroad. While Lee was in the Army stationed in Germany, he and a fellow soldier went to see a fortune teller just for fun. Lee noticed that the gypsy woman gave him a mediocre fortune--he payed the bare-minimum fee. His buddy paid extra money and got a much better future out of the deal. This is where the song "Seekers of Faith" came from. It speaks of the gypsy as a liar and how it is important to find something worthy to put you faith in.
The sweet ballad "Light Falling Rain" is a love song that emerges from inner conflict. This song has a nice surprise ending.
"Line Upon Line" was a song written specifically for a home schooling conference. It was written, along with the harmony arrangement, one week before the conference as the theme song. Tim didn't think the song worked that the organizers of the conference recommended, so he wrote one that he thought would. They got a great response after they were done singing it, and could have sold up to 100 CDs that day! Unfortunately, they did not have a recording of it until now. It ends the album with the phrase, "...growing tall and strong, that's the way it should be."
"Thief in Time" is about turning around and going home; even though the past may be spent poorly, the future may be salvaged and shaped. There is often deeper meanings that surprises the brothers when others sometimes mention what they got from the songs. It seems that listeners do not all agree which is the best Vosika Brothers song; everyone has their own favorites.
When the brothers, Tim and Lee (along with Tim's wife, Liesl), began recording in 1992, they recorded seven songs on a small four-track cassette recorder. They passed out copies of the tapes to family and friends, learning later that bootleg copies had been made and passed around to more people. Word came back that people were listening to these crude (rough) recordings over and over--wearing out the tapes. This is one of the reasons, besides the love of music, that pushed them onward. Their music has been referred to as, "A breath of fresh air." The Vosika Brothers are excited for you to hear their songs and harmonies. They appreciate all the support!
