Chris plays piano and keyboards on Hit The Mark and the The Hidden Tiger by jazz/fusion band The Christopher Gross Ensemble. He contributed Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer parts to two recent singer/songwriter releases: Say It by Kevin Joyce and Pitch Black Mile by Karyn Kupferman. (Many of these recordings are available here at CDBaby!)
Chris studied jazz with Marc Seales at the University of Washington and has studied the music of Keith Jarrett, Frederic Chopin, Aaron Copland, Bill Evans, Bruce Hornsby, Bela Fleck, Kenny Kirkland, Randy Newman, and Chick Corea. NANCY ERICKSON BIO: Nancy Erickson (vocals) has studied music her entire life, starting with piano lessons from the ages of 6 to 17, voice lessons from the age of 15, and music theory in college. She toured Europe in a jazz group and is accredited with performing in both the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands & the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Her foray into music theory afforded her the ability to arrange as well, and she has written both horn and band arrangements for past musical endeavors. An accomplished and sought after studio musician, Nancy has recorded with the Northwest Greats, and co-produced a Christmas CD in 1993 under the group name, 'Xebec' with her husband, John Erickson, and pianist Chris Welch entitled 'Urban Christmas'. Shortly after, she stepped outside the Jazz box and has since returned to a more rootsy gospel sound, imparting facets of pop, rock, country, and R&B, and currently writes charts in those genres for her church, as well as singing with the Northwest R&B band Freddy Pink (which just celebrated its 25th year of entertaining the Pacific Northwest). She says When I was growing up, all types of music were ever-present in my home. We listened to The Beatles, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention, Louis Armstrong, Glen Campbell, Bobby Gentry, Frank Sinatra, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Spanky & Our Gang, The Mamas & The Papas, the musicals Hair & Oliver, and The Band. The music that filled her home became the foundation that would yield one of the most gifted and versatile musicians in the Seattle area.
