Description
Austin, TX based Lush Logic (aka Jake Scarbrough) spent the last 5 years living a double life (the underground musician vs. the corporate citizen). While continually honing his skills as a musician, producer and DJ, working on his music at every opportunity, he was also climbing the ladder as a high tech marketing professional in corporate America. Jake explains it best Many musicians have other jobs to support themselves, like waiting tables or tending bar. Instead of that I decided to slog it out in the corporate world for a while. I was extremely fortunate to get to fly all over the world for work and the things I saw are directly reflected in my music. I was that guy on the plane with his laptop out and headphones on cranking out beats, basslines, and melodies while everyone else was watching movies, working or sleeping. I found a lot of musical inspiration on airplanes with all the different types of people, styles, and varying moods.
Jakes musical influences are as varied as they are unique. While living in San Francisco in the mid-1990s through 2003, he jumped deep into the Bay Areas electronic music scene which had a profound influence on the music he creates and plays today. Equally as important were annual trips to New Orleans to experience The Funk first hand. This is definitely reflected in his debut release Funky Down Tronic where you can feel the influences of artists and bands like the Funky Meters, Project Logic, Thievery Corporation, Beck, Chemical Brothers, Cut Chemist, and the Funky Lowlives. The new album, much of which was created over numerous business trips around the world during the last five years, is a unique montage of funk/electronica/hip hop/down-tempo/jazz rolled into one.
In 2006 Jake stuck it to the man and left the corporate world behind to focus on music full time.
