Description
Matt Johnson, born in Sherman, Texas, is a dynamic, classically trained pianist who received his Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Oklahoma Baptist University. As a graduate student at New England Conservatory of Music, he formally expanded his talents in the area of composition. Studying under William Thomas McKinley, he received his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies & Composition with a Distinction in Performance.
A prolific writer and performer, Matt has performed extensively in venues from Boston to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His music is Neo-Romantic, employing a unique blend of contemporary jazz, new age, popular and classical elements.
Matt has released five Contemporary Instrumental recordings of original compositions. Origins, his fifth & latest CD, was released in 2000. In 1995, End of a Day was released Matts fourth recording which he dedicated to his oldest son. The third CD Conversations was originally released by Critique Records in 1992, but has been reissued by Dolce & Nuit Productions. Matts second recording Something About the Moon came out in 1989 and his very first album (now on CD) A Quiet Moment hit the retail shelves in 1986.
Matt has been studying/playing the piano since the age of six. His classical training has included numerous piano performance competitions and orchestral appearances. Matt is a writer member of A.S.C.A.P. and his publishing company, Dolce & Nuit Productions, is a publisher member as well.
Matt currently resides in Florida, U.S.A. with his wife and three sons. His versatility allows him to teach piano, theory & compositionplay piano, organ & keyboards for Contemporary & Traditional services at his local churchas well as accompany & adjudicate music festivals & competitions.
